Comic Con 2012 – Booth 1133

by Jason Brubaker on July 9, 2012 at 5:00 am
Posted In: Blog

As you can see, I am taking this Monday off as well as next. There are so many fun things happening all at once that I don’t want to overload myself. Comic-con is the biggest show ever and I finally got into a booth and so I really want to make it count this year. Then the next weekend is my 10 year wedding anniversary so we are skipping town for a while and I don’t really want to explain to my wife that I need to update the blog while we are celebrating. haha

But don’t worry, I’m scheduling a lot of pinups to go live every day for the next few weeks to keep the juices flowing. If anything, make sure to come back on the 23rd of July because Chapter 5 will be starting as well as something even cooler! I’m excited! See you all soon,

Jason

Thank You for Your Submissions!

by Jason Brubaker on July 1, 2012 at 12:00 am
Posted In: Blog

This is just a quick post to say that the reMIND pinup contest deadline is here. I am completely blown away with the amount of submissions I received this time and I just want to say THANK YOU for all your hard work and time in creating so much good art. It’s a real joy to see other interpretations of my characters and see how much they are loved. If I uploaded one pinup each day, it would take WAAAAAY too long to show everyone’s work so starting Tuesday I will post 2 or 3 pinups each day until they are all online. Then after they are all live I will open it up for voting!

Thank you again and good luck to all the contributors!

New Location at Comic-Con 2012!

by Jason Brubaker on June 27, 2012 at 11:08 am
Posted In: Blog

Remember when I announced my location at Comic-Con this year? Well, the next day I got a call from Comic-Con offering me a booth because I was on the waiting list and someone just canceled. I jumped at the opportunity because this means I permanently have a spot as long as I keep paying for it every year. The only downside is now I am in a super crunch to get everything ready for a booth instead of a small table. Oh yeah, and the program guide will still have me listed under my Small Press location. Oh well.

None the less, I need to print a big backdrop banner now and I plan to bring a flatscreen TV so I can loop my reMIND infomercial with animation to attract the grazers. This will be an interesting year to say the least.

So anyway, if you want to find me then you can print out this map with my new location. I’ll be right next to the Webcomics section this year. Suddenly I’m excited to be going to Comic-Con again!

Click on the map to see it full size. See you soon!

reMIND is on TV!

by Jason Brubaker on June 19, 2012 at 1:38 pm
Posted In: Blog

This Saturday was a surreal experience. I saw reMIND animation on Channel 5! Yes, you heard me right. Let me explain.

An old friend of mine, Matt Fisher, works as an editor. (He also has a Youtube channel all about golf here.) Matt emailed me a few weeks back and asked if I had any animation that he could use for a show that he edits. I said yes. I sent him some footage that night. The next day it was cut into the final episode of the first season of “On the Spot“. It was just that fast.

So a few weeks went by and Matt emailed me again to tell me it was going to air on Saturday at 1:30PM on Channel 5. My wife and I recorded it and here it is.

Sorry the volume is really low. Our kids were taking a nap in the next room and so we couldn’t crank it. Also, we filmed it from an iPhone so it’s a little shaky and you can hear us reacting to it at the end. Click the image below to be taken to the video. (I could get the video to properly embed into this post.)

Now I know this doesn’t mean very much in terms of book sales or anything but the thing I love about it is the potential exposure it might give to an unsuspecting future fan. Even if people don’t remember where they saw this cat in a robot suit fighting lizards, the fact that it might look familiar could make someone give the book a chance when they see it on the shelf.

Plus, I was given permission to put my reMIND logo in the bottom right corner. :)

Thanks again Matt!

Get Published in reMIND Vol.2

Art Contest! Vol:2

Starting today is a pin-up contest for reMIND Volume 2! The winner will be printed and credited in the reMIND Volume 2 book and win $150.

The last time I had this contest, I was blown away with the amount of pin-up’s submitted and on top of that I was blown away with the quality of the work. Hopefully by now you’ve seen reMIND Volume 1 (the book) to see just how good the pinup section was with art from high profile artists like Sam Kieth. This Volume will be the same with some amazing new artists already in place.

Anyone can enter a pinup to get a chance at seeing it in the printed book. Plus, every pinup that I get will be added to the pin-up gallery on this site with links back to your site. (Please send a banner along with your art so I can link back to you)

Here are some of the specifics for entering:

  • The deadline in JUNE 30th, 2012.
  • Page Dimensions are 7″ x 10.5″ at 300 dpi. Here is the direct link: http://www.remindblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Page_Template.jpg
  • Please only send .jpg files. If you are chosen for the book I’ll request a full size .psd file later.
  • Full color or Black and White (but your chances at print will probably be better with color)
  • Digital or traditional as long as it’s TOTALLY RAD!
  • It can be Victuals, Victuals in Robo-suit, Sonja, Lizard-man, or any of the character from reMIND. It could be ALL the characters too!
  • Send a banner to your site along with your art so I can link back to you.
  • Please send your pin-up to Jason@reMINDblog.com with PIN-UP SUBMISSION as the header.
  • Must be rated PG… so I can look at it without my parents permission.
  • Please consider the audience when creating a pinup for this site or the book. It should be for kids and adults to enjoy. I will not post anything that is inappropriate.

After the deadline has passed I will display all the pinups on this site and have an open vote to determine the top candidates. My wife and I will probably decide which one is the winner though.  I’m sure I’m missing something so leave a comment with any questions you have. The winner will be required to send a high res .PSD or .TIF file so make sure you keep your master file. $150 will be rewarded to the winner after I collect the final file for print. That’s it!

Like everything else, this is a form of promotion so please send this to anyone who might be interested in submitting.

I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with this time!!!

Kung Fu Panda 2 Artwork!

by Jason Brubaker on May 15, 2012 at 3:00 pm
Posted In: Blog

A while ago I posted some Visual Development from Kung Fu Panda 2 that I did. Well, here is a little more. This was the first sequence that I painted color keys for. Color Keys are small paintings for specific scenes that show everyone what to make the scene look like when it’s finished. It acts as a sort of blueprint for what the final render should look like when it’s textured, rendered with lighting and all the right colors and mood. I’m pretty proud of this, it’s one of my favorite scenes in the film.

Here is the scene on Youtube but it’s in Cantonese. Sorry, I can’t find it in English.

If you want to see more Vis Dev for Kung Fu Panda 2 then check out my last post on the subject here: Kung Fu Panda 2 – Set Designs

Stuff!

Posted In: Blog

Here is another one of my latest Kickstarter paintings that I’m still working on a year after my campaign closed. I only have 2 more to do. Hopefully soon.

Wormworld Saga – Chapter 3!

Daniel Lieske just posted the third chapter of his amazing online graphic novel the other day. If you haven’t seen it yet then you really need to check it out. This is as good as free comics get in my opinion.

Plushie Fun!

If any of you are in the market to make a plushie for your webcomic then check out this article written by ComicRocket.com. I was interviewed for the article and I give away all my secrets. ;) If you want to hire the same people that I used then this article gives you all the juicy details.

Making Plushies for your Webcomic!

Bye for now.
