Happy Halloween! Here is a super cool picture that a reMIND fan sent me the other day of a Victuals Pumpkin he carved! Thanks Daniel!
This was the first year that my son picked what he wanted to be and he chose… Captain America!
Now excuse us as we go and fight some quick battles!

In other news, Chris and I should be sending all the files for reMIND Volume 2 to the printer today. YES! I can’t believe it is this close to being finished. Now we just have a few rounds of proofs and we will soon be sitting on a pile of books! 6000 to be exact. :)

Please tell me they’ll pop up through a green pipe at the end of this *lol*
I don’t think he’s called that rat “Momma” yet. I guess the rat probably had some time to wonder around before he freed it and it found him imprisoned near the Nahusthan machine.
I can’t remember what exactly this reminds me of… DigDug? Metriod? Something like that. Either way I really like the 2D feel of it all, and the pipes and cables, and the variations and such.
And now after I read charles’ comment it’s Mario. Ha!
Take your pick. I think a lot of games compare to this.
For me, its mostly “Another World” which is an old favorite of mine. It also brings me back to various levels of Sonic the Hedgehog, Odd World, Flashback.
Now that I think about it, reMind would make an awesome game. Seriously, I can almost pick the various action and cut scenes from the book’s flow.
So have you decided between the Phobos and Miyazaki type options for your next project Jason?
You guys are totally right! This was partially inspired by video games while growing up. I just love the sense of a maze where you can visually navigate through. But it’s also inspired by a friend of mine, Jon Klassen, who is becoming a huge name in children’s books now. It’s not surprise because his work is amazing. We shared an office at work for about a year and he influences me in so many ways.
Anyway, Charles81, to answer your question… I’m not fully sure yet. There are so many options on the table now and it’s hard to decide because for the last 10 years I forced myself to put aside all other ideas to focus on reMIND. Now that I have the freedom to choose, I am lost. haha
My immediate goals are to clean up my office, pack things away nicely, clean my garage where my stock of books will go. Then I want to focus for a little while on finishing my How-To book and launching a Kickstarter for that early next year.
But after all that has settled, I think my plan will be to do a test chapter of the Miyazaki style story to pitch to Scholastic. I want to work out a deal where they publish it but I retain the rights to the “Artist Edition” so I can publish it myself like I did with reMIND. This is all just a big “what if” at this point but I thought I might as well try since I have a contact a Scholastic who is interested in that story.
It’s still early though and I realize now that I need to just take some time off and not think about it for a while. Get my mind clear again. :)
