Last week was pretty crazy with the launch of MakingComics.com. I can’t really say that my plan of freeing up my schedule has been successful. I’m sure you are all saying, “I told you so.” But, at least it’s a change of pace for me and I think that’s important to keep things interesting. I’ve gotta say that the amount of quality articles contributed to the new site is nothing sort of amazing! I’m trying to space them out in case nobody submits anything else. Eventually I’ll update all my articles and post them on the new site to give it some content if submissions starts running low.
But the big fun news today is that the first podcast is now live. This took some work as you will hear about in the intro. We wasted a lot of time trying to record this one but hopefully we can tune our production to be efficient from this point on. The next episode will be really fun too and you’ll have to listen to find out why. Head on over to MakingComics.com to give it a listen. Or you can find it in iTunes.
Please help me spread the word about this new podcast and website. I think the only way it will really work is if it’s popular enough to sustain itself with contributing authors and editors. So, if you want to contribute then let me know. I’m even looking for help with SEO, and possibly someone who can edit the podcast to make it sound like the most amazing NPR radio show ever! You know, cool music, sound effects, catchy editing and all that. As it stands, I am doing all the editing myself and so I don’t have the time or knowledge to fine tune it. If you or someone you know is an audio editor looking for something to really blow minds with, then send me an email. You’ll get full editing credit and links to your site as well. If not, then I’ll just keep doing it myself and you’ll get what you get. haha
Well, back to work on reMIND for me! I’m actually starting to make some progress again! That’s good right?

In other news, I’ll be exhibiting this weekend (5th and 6th) at the Comikaze Expo in the Los Angeles Convention Center! My table number is 65! I believe I am located towards the back in a Small Press type area. This is my first year attending and exhibiting here so I’m not sure what to expect. It looks like it’s gonna be fun and the tickets are super cheap so there is no reason you shouldn’t come and see me… unless you are not in LA. :(

Good luck at the expo, Jason. I’m looking forward to more articles (podcasts) from you or any other contributors about your various experiences with participating in cons cause they’re on the horizon for me.
This is so exciting! Good luck with the Expo and the Podcast.
I can appreciate that you’re feeling the stress and need more time but please reconsider your (rash) plans to convert over to podcasts.
My inner teenager would quickly tell you that podcasts suck, but my responsible adult exterior knows you need something more.
I’m also a stressed out parent; my daughter is disabled and requires constant care so what you’re going through now with a new born has been a significant part of my life for a decade.
Back to the point, podcasts might be faster for you to make but your readers (viewers) have to slog through them at the rate you talk instead of the rate that they read. And if you’re talking about saving time by not preparing a script at least then we have to slog through unprofessional drivel or you will find your self spending a lot of time editing video — which despite all the glitzy iPad ads, is not as quick as editing an article.
Your articles and diagrams are greatly inspiring but I honestly think the only thing I’m going to “create” after viewing the same information on hastily created podcasts will be a Technicolour Yawn.
So, that said, Keep Up The Good Work! :)
After a few weeks about trying to do a podcast I can clearly see your point about it being just as much if not more work than editing an article. I think for me, though, it’s more about switching it up now. I like writing articles but sometimes I don’t. hah, The thing I am getting out of the podcast is I get to call amazing artist and talk about everything. I don’t really want to make a podcast about how to do something, it’s more about talking to cool people to get insight.
But, every now and then I want to write an article if I feel like I have something new figured out. Thanks again for your thoughts though and I’m sorry to hear about the stressful situation you are in.
Jason, I’m so excited about this podcast. As a longtime fan of reMIND and Wormworld, I greatly enjoyed the first episode. Can’t wait to hear what you guys have up your sleeves in the future! Thanks for making such great stories and helping aspiring artists like myself get our feet under us.
I think a podcast is a really good idea. I can listen to it while working.
The whole Making Comics website looks very interesting. Although I’m not making comics as such, my illustrations are in a similar sort of style.
One thing – I can’t see a really obvious link to the Making Comics site on this blog, except for the links in the posts.
