Studio Progresson May 16, 2011 at 1:00 am
Wow, I can’t believe so much has happened in the last week. I had to take on some freelance work at night to pay for my new studio conversion so I’ve been only getting about 5 to 6 hours of sleep for the last month. That is totally NOT normal for me and it’s weird that my body has been able to function at all. Also, I’ve been playing contractor. Making sure that the electrical and drywall are finished on time. All the walls got painted on Saturday and the only big things left to do are painting the floors and putting insulation in the ceiling. Well, I need to put a new door on the outside and some finishing touches but it’s pretty close now. Good thing too, because the books are coming in about 2 weeks.
Sunday I spent the day building some MASSIVE shelves to hold all my books and t-shirts and other products. I’ll show pictures of it all when it’s all finished. Here is a progress shot of the studio since the walls are finished. This first shot is where all the books will be stored and through the door is where my new studio/office will be.
This next shot is through the door and inside the office area.
I build that shelf in the ceiling on Saturday just to maximize my storage space. You might be wondering why I’ve decided to convert my garage into my new studio when obviously I had a room in the house devoted to it already. Well, besides needing a convenient place to store my books my wife and I are also expecting another boy in October. So my current office is going to be the new baby’s bedroom. But honestly, this now studio space is a dream come true. I’ve been longing for the day that I could have something like this and now it’s finally happening. Plus, there’s no way I could have fit all those books in my office. I don’t know what I was thinking. haha
The freelance work should be finished this week and I’ll be able to switch gears again to focus fully on reMIND book 2. I’ve been working on Chapters 4 and 5 whenever I get a second to squeeze in some time and I finally found a colorist that is helping me with all the coloring of the second book. This way I can focus on the drawings and story and hopefully get the second book finished in about a year. I’ll still be heavily involved with the coloring and texturing though so don’t worry, it will be just as nice looking or better than the first book. I’ll introduce you to my colorist when we start showing off some new pages. I can’t wait!
I have more guest comics and I’ll post a new one sometime this week. Sorry, it’s just WAY too late right now. I’d probably accidentally post it upside down or something if I did it before going to bed. I’ll also try to post Chris’ new Designing reMIND article on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Oh yeah, I just hired an excellent children’s book and graphic novel publicist. She is going to start a massive PR campaign for reMIND and so hopefully it will start getting some really good exposure. I’ll let you know more as things progress. Now it’s time to hit that hay!
