It was a long slow process. I first came up with a cat that had lizard features. But then the story made little sense so I changed it so that is was more of a lizard colony. It has nothing to do with the "Lizard People" stories that have been floating around the internet though.
I think it should be "The king revealed all the secrets of his palace to me." As it is, it sounds like the palace is the place the king does the revealing, not the place with the secrets. And when that's cleared up, "private" is superfluous.
