Outsourcing is mainly to save time doing things that you don't really need to do. Flatting a comic page is something that anyone can do once they learn it so there is little reason to do it yourself unless you enjoy the process. The longer you spend on something like a graphic novel the more you try to figure out how to maximize your efforts because every stage takes a LONG time.

It's good to wear all the hats at first but soon you will learn what do don't want to do anymore and then it's time to start delegating. Thanks for the comments! Good luck with the project too.

I came up with initial idea and design and then asked a talented designer to make it even better. Here's a blog series he (my designer) wrote on the process:

Did you design the book yourself? (Cover as well as binding)

Okay. I'm a rookie, I'll admit it but I'm learning so much from reading and talking with you all.

Questions:

Did you outsource the coloring purely for the sake of the project? (In terms of turnaround)

Right now I'm wearing so many hats (writing, lettering, pencils, and inks) for my stories that the option to outsource never crossed my mind. I suppose I'm a bit skeptical to reliinquish control over a project to someone foreign to my ideas.

But, would you recommend this as a means to generating more projects faster?

And I agree...you spreads are superb. How long have you been doing this?

Tom - Hey thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I agree with your comment on outsourcing. It seems like the animation industry is more sour about it then the comic industry so I probably shouldn't worry about it. Either way, it's perfect for what I need.
